The
First Annual Global
Playback Event:
World
Kindness Day
November 13, 2005
Join
us in sharing your story on World Kindness Day, November 13, 2005.
Playback Theatre companies on six continents, in widely diverse
settings and communities, will be performing personal stories of
“Acts of Kindness”.
This
global event aligns two movements - Playback Theatre, with its hundreds
of companies worldwide, and groups focused on promoting and celebrating
actions based on kindness. The performances will remind us of what
can happen when people behave kindly towards each other.
Playback
Theatre invites personal stories, told in community, and honors
the storytellers through enacting their experiences. These enactments
have promoted compassion and understanding in challenging arenas
around the world. Groups in conflict and people divided by race,
class or caste have found new attitudes of acceptance through sharing
experiences in playback performances.
The
transformational power of kindness presents an alternative to the
negativity of fear and division that is so prevalent in our world
today. Fear leads to secrecy, violence and chaos. We can choose
to reframe our perceptions and remind ourselves of the common meeting
place that kindness creates, a place where our civil society is
strengthened, and where people are empowered to take back their
communities.
This
event is a moment in time when we can stop, take a breath, and focus
on what is working in our lives. What are we grateful for? How do
acts of kindness make a difference in our lives? What does that
suggest for enlightened ways of addressing the challenges we face
as a human race, together?
The
Second Annual Global Playback Event:
Human
Rights Day
December 10, 2006
Join
us in sharing your story on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2006.
Playback Theatre companies on six continents, in widely diverse
settings and communities, will be performing personal stories of
“Listening, Speaking Out, and Taking Action”.
This
global event aligns two movements - Playback Theatre, with its hundreds
of companies worldwide, and groups focused on promoting human rights.
The performances will remind us of what can happen when people give
their attention to our common humanity.
Playback
Theatre invites personal stories, told in community, and honors
the storytellers, through enacting their experiences. These enactments
have promoted compassion and understanding in challenging arenas
around the world. Groups in conflict and people divided by race,
class or caste have found new attitudes of acceptance through sharing
experiences in playback performances.
This
event is a moment in time when we can stop, take a breath, and focus
on the rights which are fundamental to all human beings. How have
we experienced those rights in our own lives, in the lives of loved
ones, of acquaintances, of strangers? What has happened to our lives,
the lives of loved ones, or the lives of strangers, when those rights
are withheld?
The
mission of this event is to use the power of Playback Theatre to:
-
Affirm the positive potential of our shared humanity
- Focus
attention on human rights, to create hope and positive change
- Unite
people across the world through an event with a shared theme
- Give
voice to people everywhere and honor their/our human experience
- Build
relationships, teamwork and trust
- Promote
an effective tool for upliftment that all can use.
Spread
the word, attend or host a playback performance, support the project
with a contribution, or join us in spirit---let's keep hope alive
together!
